Aloe Vera – the renaissance of a traditional medicinal plant

History

  • In ancient Egypt aloe was considered to be a giver of beauty, health and immortality
  • In ancient China aloe was regarded as a godly plant
  • The native Americans counted aloe among 16 holy and revered plants
  • Even today for the nomads of Africa it remains the "lily of the desert"
  • In America it is also called "The Silent Healer", or "Doctor Aloe"

Properties attributed to the aloe vera plant

  • Aloe vera belongs to the lily family although it looks more similar to a cactus. By acclimatizing to its surroundings in the subtropics (e.g. India, Brazil, Mexico, USA etc.) it can survive for many months without rain. It stores water in its fleshy leaves, closes its leaf pores and avoids drying out.
  • The cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry are principally using two particular properties of aloe:
    a) the ability of aloe to store water
    b) the abundance of valuable ingredients contained in the transparent gel of the leaves.
(Minerals, vitamins, enzymes, amino acids etc.)
  • Aloe vera can be particularly effective in:
    - Boosting the immune system
    - Acting as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, styptic, pain-killing and soothing agent, as well as a healing agent on
       wounds
    - Stimulating and improving cell renewal
    - The exchange of metabolic products via the pores of the skin instead of through the bloodstream.

Wellness trend as the answer to the increasing stress of civilisation
The wellness and anti-ageing movement demonstrates a human need
- to do something good for oneself
- to take care of body and soul
- to offset daily stresses with a positive and aware attitude to life.

This trend has brought about the renaissance of aloe vera. There are indeed to date no formal medical findings on the broad therapeutic effectiveness of aloe vera products. However, they are enjoying extremely positive ratings in comprehensive consumer groups and are seen as the expression of a dynamic and healthy lifestyle. Pedag ALOE VERA meets this need.
